The Tamil Nadu Government has announced plans to launch the Technical Textiles Transformation Scheme (TTTS) for entrepreneurs and establish a Tirupur Textiles Technology Centre (TTTC) to strengthen the State’s technical textiles ecosystem and support MSMEs and textile manufacturers in transitioning towards high-value textile production.

The announcement was made by Tamil Nadu Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson while presenting the State government’s maiden Budget in the Assembly.

The initiative aims to increase the contribution of technical textiles to the State’s overall textile production by equipping entrepreneurs and manufacturers with the knowledge and capabilities required to enter the fast-growing technical textiles segment. According to the government, technical textiles present significant opportunities for innovation, value addition, exports and high-skilled employment across sectors including healthcare, automotive, construction, agriculture and defence.

Under the scheme, the Technical Textiles Transformation Scheme for Entrepreneurs will be implemented in collaboration with international educational and research institutions, with financial assistance from the Tamil Nadu Technical Textiles Mission. The programme will provide entrepreneurs, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and textile manufacturers with international exposure, technical training, technology transfer, market intelligence, innovation support and business mentorship to facilitate their transition into technical textiles.

To support the initiative, the government will establish the Tirupur Textiles Technology Centre (TTTC) with a financial outlay of Rs 10 crore. The centre is expected to serve as a hub for technology adoption, skill development and industry collaboration for the State’s textile sector.

The Finance Minister also announced that infrastructure in Tirupur would be upgraded in multiple phases to promote environmentally sustainable textile production.

Tirupur, widely recognised as India’s knitwear capital, accounts for nearly 90% of the country’s cotton knitwear exports and operates through an integrated MSME-based manufacturing ecosystem, making it a strategic location for the new technology centre.
