Germany has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Vietnam’s green transition through technology transfer, knowledge sharing, and long-term business cooperation, underscoring the growing partnership between the two countries in advancing sustainable manufacturing and circular economy development.

The commitment was highlighted during the Germany-Vietnam Business Forum 2026, jointly organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC) and the German Business Association (GBA) in Ho Chi Minh City. Held under the theme, Circular Economy in Manufacturing,” the forum brought together policymakers, business leaders, and industry experts to explore opportunities for building a more sustainable and resilient industrial ecosystem.

Participants noted that enhanced collaboration between Germany and Vietnam is creating new prospects for sustainable manufacturing, particularly as global supply chains increasingly prioritize resource efficiency, resilience, and low-carbon production practices.

Speaking at the forum, Andrea Suhl, German Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized that amid geopolitical uncertainties and ongoing supply chain disruptions, the circular economy has emerged as a strategic instrument for strengthening economic resilience and safeguarding production systems.

She stated that Germany’s advanced technological expertise, combined with Vietnam’s robust manufacturing base and commitment to industrial transformation, could unlock significant opportunities in green production, supporting industries, digital transformation, supply chain management, and the development of eco-industrial parks.

Cao Thi Phi Van, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC), highlighted that deeper cooperation with Germany would play a pivotal role in accelerating Vietnam’s sustainable industrial development and enhancing its competitiveness in the global market.

Meanwhile, Alexander Ziehe, Chairman of the German Business Association (GBA) Vietnam, noted that Ho Chi Minh City is well positioned to incorporate circular economy principles into its next phase of industrial growth, leveraging innovation and strategic partnerships to drive transformation.

Forum participants agreed that sustainable manufacturing today extends far beyond environmental considerations. It increasingly encompasses digitalization, data-driven decision-making, and end-to-end supply chain optimization, all of which are essential for achieving long-term industrial resilience and competitiveness.

The discussions also underscored the importance of increasing investments in innovation, workforce development, and public-private partnerships to scale up circular economy models and strengthen Vietnam’s role within global manufacturing networks.

As industries worldwide transition toward more sustainable and circular production systems, the Germany-Vietnam partnership is expected to serve as a catalyst for accelerating green industrial transformation, reinforcing Vietnam’s position as an emerging hub for sustainable manufacturing in Asia.
