The release of polyester fully drawn yarn (FDY) import consignments that had been held at various ports across Gujarat has commenced from 12th June 2026, following the Gujarat High Court’s decision to lift an interim stay that had blocked implementation of a central government order.

The Customs Department approved the release of the containers after discussions with senior representatives of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCCI). The development follows the revocation of the Quality Control Order (QCO) applicable to polyester FDY yarn through Government of India Order No. 5134(E).

The government’s decision to withdraw the QCO was challenged by Orilon Company through Special Civil Application (SCA) No. 16973/2025 before the Gujarat High Court. During proceedings, the court imposed an interim stay on 6th April 2026, resulting in imported polyester FDY yarn consignments being detained at multiple ports across the state.

Subsequently, the Government of India filed Letters Patent Appeal (LPA) No. 419 against the interim order. After hearing the appeal, the Gujarat High Court lifted the stay through an oral order, removing restrictions on polyester FDY yarn and related products.

Following the court’s decision, SGCCCI moved swiftly to address the issue with customs authorities. SGCCCI President Ashokbhai Jirawala held an online meeting under the Clearance Facilitation Committee (CCFC) framework with Gujarat Principal Chief Commissioner of Customs Pranesh Pathak, Commissioner of Customs Manish Kulhari and Additional Commissioner Ram Vishnoi.

During the meeting, customs officials agreed to immediately begin the release process for polyester FDY yarn containers and related product categories that had been held at Gujarat ports. The department also indicated that consignments of polyester oriented yarn (POY) would be approved and released in the near future.

The development is expected to provide significant relief to Gujarat’s textile industry, which had been facing disruptions due to the prolonged detention of imported raw materials worth millions of rupees. Industry stakeholders said the release of the consignments would restore raw material availability, support uninterrupted production and improve supply chain efficiency across textile manufacturing centres, including Surat.

Jirawala expressed appreciation for the prompt action taken by senior customs officials and stated that the decision would bring substantial relief to the textile industry in Gujarat.
