Epic Group has inaugurated its Trimetro Manufacturing Campus in Khordha, Odisha, marking a $100 million investment in garment manufacturing with a strong focus on environmental performance and social impact. The facility was formally opened by Shri Sampad Chandra Swain, Honourable Industries Minister of Odisha, alongside government representatives, industry stakeholders, and Epic Group Founder and Chairman Ranjan Mahtani.

Spread across 40 acres, the campus is designed to produce 20 million garments annually for global markets. It also stands out as India’s first garment manufacturing facility built to operate with both net-zero carbon emissions and net-zero water use, according to the company.

The project brings together manufacturing scale with resource efficiency. Renewable energy sources, including onsite and offsite solar, sustainable biomass, battery storage, and energy-efficient systems, are integrated into the facility’s operations to lower emissions. Climate-responsive building design, including super-insulated structures and biodiverse green spaces, also supports the campus’s environmental goals.

Water management is another central feature of the project. Through conservation and recycling systems, the campus has been designed to maintain a net-positive water balance, reducing freshwater demand while improving water stewardship.

For Epic Group, the project also signals a broader approach to growth. “The Trimetro Manufacturing Campus is a model for how manufacturing can grow sustainably while contributing to the well-being of people and the planet,” said Ranjan Mahtani at the inauguration.

The social and economic impact of the investment is also significant. The campus is expected to create 10,000 jobs, with women projected to make up 80 percent of the workforce. That scale of employment positions the facility as a major industrial and social development project for the region.

The project received support from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which provided a $100 million debt financing package in 2024. The package included a sustainability-linked loan and a green loan with sustainability-linked features. According to Epic Group, the financing supports both the Odisha facility and wider expansion efforts across the region, including Bangladesh.

The opening of Trimetro comes at a time when manufacturers are facing growing pressure to reduce emissions, manage water risks, and improve supply chain resilience. Facilities designed around lower-impact production are becoming increasingly relevant as brands, investors, and regulators raise expectations.

India’s apparel sector has been expanding its role in global sourcing, and investments like this point to how sustainability-linked manufacturing may become part of that growth story. For Odisha, the project also signals rising interest in developing industrial capacity beyond traditional manufacturing hubs.

With large-scale production, renewable energy integration, water recycling, and employment generation built into one site, the Trimetro campus presents a practical example of how garment manufacturing is being rethought in response to environmental and market pressures.
