The U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol has announced that Under Armour, Inc. (NYSE: UA, UAA) has joined its membership, marking a significant step toward advancing responsible and transparent cotton sourcing in the United States.

The move underscores Under Armour’s growing focus on sustainable raw material sourcing, particularly cotton, a key input across its apparel portfolio. Through the Trust Protocol, the company will gain access to verified, field-level data covering critical environmental metrics such as water usage, greenhouse gas emissions, soil health and land use.

As part of its initial rollout, Under Armour will pilot the use of Trust Protocol cotton in its upcoming fall season, integrating traceable cotton into all graphic T-shirts within its Freedom collection, an apparel line dedicated to supporting military personnel, veterans and first responders.

The Trust Protocol is a voluntary sustainability and traceability programme for U.S. cotton, distinguished by its data-driven and measurable approach. It enables brands to monitor environmental performance at the farm level while ensuring greater supply chain transparency, an increasingly important factor for global textile and apparel players.

“Under Armour believes performance starts with the materials we choose. Where and how our cotton is grown matters,” said Aaron Driggers, Director of Sustainability at Under Armour. “Joining the Trust Protocol strengthens our ability to build better products while advancing transparency across our supply chain.”

Welcoming the brand, Gary Adams, President of the Trust Protocol, highlighted the alignment between performance-driven innovation and measurable sustainability. He noted that the programme’s data-backed framework will support Under Armour in tracking progress and validating improvements across key environmental indicators.
