India and Vietnam Deepen Textile and Footwear Cooperation for Integrated Value Chains

India and Vietnam are strengthening their engagement across textiles, leather, and footwear sectors to build more integrated value chains. The collaboration reflects ongoing efforts to align production capabilities with evolving global industry requirements. Stakeholders from both countries are exploring opportunities across multiple segments.

According to reports, industry stakeholders from both countries are examining avenues to expand cooperation across different segments. These efforts are expected to support coordinated growth and strengthen supply chain linkages.

Vietnam’s Trade Counsellor to India, Bui Trung Thuong, highlighted the complementary strengths of the two economies, noting that both nations are strategically positioned within global textile and footwear value chains. As industries continue to evolve, this alignment is being seen as a basis for expanded cooperation.

Industry experts indicated that closer engagement could contribute to the development of integrated production networks, improve product value, and open opportunities in trade, investment, and technology exchange.

The silk sector has been identified as a key area of focus, with scope for joint initiatives in breeding technology, skill development, and high-quality product manufacturing. There is also potential to explore applications of silk beyond traditional textiles, including advanced material segments.

From an investment perspective, both countries present complementary capabilities. Vietnam continues to strengthen its garment manufacturing base, while India provides a strong foundation in raw materials and textile inputs. This positioning is expected to support joint ventures and deeper supply chain integration.

Representatives from research institutions have also emphasised the need for increased scientific collaboration through joint research projects, knowledge exchange, and training programmes. Expanding participation in global industry platforms has been identified as an additional priority to support long-term cooperation.
