Italian yarn specialist MIC Spa is presenting its latest innovations at Techtextil 2026 in collaboration with Shima Seiki Italia, highlighting the evolution of yarn into a high-performance technological component.

At the centre of the showcase is the EXTE 2.7 yarn, engineered for advanced applications and used to create technical gloves directly on Shima Seiki machines. These gloves combine elasticity, durability and precision, demonstrating the shift from traditional yarn to functional, performance-driven materials.

A key highlight is its role in the MUSE project, developed jointly by Shima Seiki and Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna. The innovation integrates textile-based pneumatic actuators into a wearable soft robotic glove designed to support hand movement. Using Wholegarment technology and specialised yarns, the system enables biomimetic motion, assisting finger opening and closing.

The EXTE range reflects MIC’s focus on performance optimisation, offering yarns in multiple counts, gauges and elasticity levels suited for both technical and aesthetic applications. The company also provides a wide portfolio of yarns across polyester, cotton, polyamide and blends, supported by a stock service of over 450 ready-to-ship colours.

With roots dating back to 1911 and formalised through the establishment of Manifattura Italiana Cucirini in 1976, MIC continues to expand its global presence, particularly in Europe and North Africa. Its fully Made-in-Italy production and innovation-led approach position it as a key partner for both conventional and advanced textile applications.
