The ASSOCHAM has appointed Updeep Singh as Chairman of its National Council on Textiles and Technical Textiles, marking a strategic move to strengthen industry leadership and accelerate sectoral growth.

Welcoming the appointment, ASSOCHAM said Singh’s deep industry expertise and strategic perspective will play a key role in advancing India’s textile ecosystem, with a particular focus on technical textiles and global competitiveness.

In his acceptance, Singh expressed gratitude to the chamber’s leadership for their trust and outlined a forward-looking agenda for the sector. He emphasised that the next phase of growth will be driven not just by capacity expansion, but by policy clarity, competitiveness, and coordinated execution.

The industry is targeting an ambitious US$ 350 billion market size, including US$ 100 billion in exports. To achieve this, Singh highlighted several priority areas, including stable and predictable policy frameworks to drive investment, and stronger support for MSMEs through improved access to technology, finance, skilling and markets.

He identified technical textiles as a key growth lever, with applications across infrastructure, healthcare and defence expected to significantly expand India’s manufacturing footprint. He also stressed the need to move from Made in India to Trusted from India, highlighting the importance of quality, compliance, consistency, and traceability.

Sustainability and circularity, he noted, will be critical as global markets increasingly demand responsible manufacturing practices.

Singh further called for deeper collaboration across stakeholders, including government, large enterprises, MSMEs, and institutions. While large companies can drive scale and global linkages, MSMEs will remain central to innovation, employment and resilience, supported by enabling policy frameworks.

He said he looks forward to working closely with industry stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and position India as a future-ready global leader in textiles and technical textiles.
