US cotton export sales moderated slightly in the week ending April 2, 2026, following the sharp rebound recorded in the previous reporting period, indicating a partial cooling of buying momentum.

According to the latest USDA data, net export sales of Upland cotton totalled 319,600 running bales (RB), down 14 per cent from the previous week, but 25 per cent above the four-week average, suggesting that underlying demand remained firm despite the weekly decline.

The sales performance was led by Vietnam with 132,500 RB, followed by Turkiye at 67,800 RB, Pakistan at 36,000 RB, India at 24,200 RB, and Bangladesh at 18,700 RB, highlighting continued strong participation from Asian markets.

New crop sales for the 2026–27 marketing year were reported at 14,100 RB, reflecting relatively modest forward contracting compared to the previous week.

On the logistics front, export shipments stood at 342,700 RB, down 4 per cent week on week and 2 per cent below the four-week average. Key destinations included Vietnam, China, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, indicating steady execution of existing orders.

In the Pima segment, net sales dropped sharply to 6,500 RB, down 58 per cent from the previous week and the four-week average. However, exports rose to 10,600 RB, up 40 per cent week on week, signalling improved shipment activity despite weaker fresh buying.

Overall, the latest data reflects a measured correction after the previous week’s surge, with demand levels still supported by consistent buying from major Asian markets and stable shipment flows in the US cotton market.
