  • The partnership aims to support India's export goals, including $80 billion in e-commerce exports by 2030.
  • The initiative will help small businesses leverage Amazon's global reach and build a supportive ecosystem for sustainable export growth.

In a major step to catalyse India's e-commerce export potential, the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Amazon India to accelerate exports by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the country. This partnership aims to establish a dedicated e-commerce export task force to collaboratively shape policy frameworks, enable infrastructure support, and increase awareness of e-commerce export opportunities among Indian businesses.

The MoU was signed in New Delhi by Dr Ajay Sahai, director general and CEO, FIEO, and Chetan Krishnaswamy, vice president, Amazon.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr Ajay Sahai emphasised the significance of this collaboration saying that India’s MSME sector has immense potential to contribute to global trade. By partnering with Amazon, they aim to build the capacities of small businesses, including artisans, weavers, and manufacturers, and help them leverage e-commerce for international expansion. This MoU is a pivotal step towards enabling MSMEs to overcome traditional export barriers and become competitive global players.

Sahai also added that the MoU annals a milestone for both FIEO and Amazon with an objective to institutionalise the relationship for an enabling and supporting ecosystem for e-commerce exports. The partnership will further help in visibility of Indian products globally and will work closely with stakeholders to identify the issues and address them. He reiterated that the government has also come out with a new scheme for e-commerce hubs, which will further help in boosting overall exports of the country, FIEO said on its website.

Krishnaswamy said that this landmark partnership between Amazon and the FIEO marks an important step towards boosting India's e-commerce exports. “Through this collaboration, we aim to support India's vision of achieving $200-300 billion in e-commerce exports by 2030. Having already enabled over $13 billion in e-commerce exports from India by 2024, we recently renewed our pledge to enable $80 billion in cumulative exports by 2030. This partnership will enable Indian businesses to leverage Amazon's global marketplace presence across 20+ countries,” he explained.

“Sustainable export growth requires more than just having great products – it needs a supportive ecosystem. Our collaboration with FIEO is about creating an accessible and scalable framework for Indian businesses to thrive globally. By combining Amazon’s global infrastructure and FIEO’s institutional reach, we aim to reduce operational hurdles, improve export readiness, and empower entrepreneurs to build successful export businesses. This initiative is aligned with Amazon’s goal of enabling $80 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports from India by 2030,” Srinidhi Kalvapudi, head, Amazon Global Selling India, said.

Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Suvidh Shah, additional director general, FIEO; Aman Jain, director, public policy, Amazon Global Selling; Ashish Jain, deputy director general, FIEO and PT Srinath, director, FIEO.

The whole programme titled “E-commerce for Exporters: Expanding Reach, Navigating Challenges” entailed signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) along with session on stakeholder consultation on e-commerce and an Amazon registration & onboarding session, which helped in deliberating on key issues, challenges, and the way forward to promote a more enabling environment for e-commerce exports from India.
